Hello my name is Adam and I'm concerned I might be showing early signs of MS. For the past four weeks I've been feeling horrible. Here are some of my symptoms:

Pain: a stiff pain in the knees, pain in the foot, pain in the shoulders and in the neck

Numbness/tingling: in the face around the eyes and in my feet and hands

Extreme fatigue: accompanied by weakness and feeling of off balanced ness when walking but I haven't fell

    Headache: very dull

Trouble sleeping: accompanied by depression and loss of appatite

Now I did have a stroke in February but I have recovered greatly since then and because of the stroke I went to the ER but the CT scans showed that it wasn't a stroke or TIA. I was tested for lymes disease and anemia which both came back negative but they did find that I was vitimian D deficient. They said that it might be complex migraines but I have been taking the medication for three weeks now and have seen no improvement. If anybody can help shed some light on my situation I'd be very happy because I have a doctors appointment on Tuesday and I don't know say to him because I know this is something that needs to be taken care of. Please let me know if you know if you need more info.

    Adam

    Adam,

    Welcome.

My first boss experienced a stroke and though he did recover, until he died, he experienced fatigue, loss of balance, numbness, and appetite problems. My brother and I worked his farm for him and we would have to stop work when we noticed his body starting to fail him. We would go in for lunch and the remainder of the day, he would rest until it was time for us to go home.

I am not telling you that you have lingering problems due to your stroke, BUT it remains a possibility.

Your vitamin D deficiency is a well known MS mimicry. How a Vitamin D deficiency affects an individual varies, but it does mimic MS. Once vitamin D levels are replenished and held steady, it can take 3 -6 months for the effects of the deficiency to reverse.

After you D deficiency is resolved and 3 - 6 months had elapsed, if your symptoms are continuing, then you have more information to push forward towards another diagnosis. Your vitamin D levels will probably require daily maintenance from here onward.

If MS is a possibility, an MS Specialist needs to be consulted. After an initial examination and taking your vitamin D deficiency and your stroke and other tests into consideration, the MS Specialist may order an MRI of your head and c-spine. You noted that you were having migraines too. Migraines can cause lesions. If your MRI shows lesions, it will be necessary to evaluate the lesions as to whether they may or may not be due to the migraines.

There are over 400 MS mimicries and you have already indicated a vitamin D deficiency. I would encourage you to focus on this while seeking further answers. With any luck, the deficiency will be the sole problem.

Again, welcome. I hope we can help you. I would love to see you wave good-bye to MS in your rear view mirror. For now, please feel welcome to join us here and allow us to journey with you as you seek a definitive diagnosis.
